It’s Irish, specifically Gaelic Celtic, so it’s not British. Brythonic Celtic (Welsh, Cornish, Breton) are phonetic. English is not Celtic in any shape or form. I’m not gonna go down the black — white area but I think Irish names are popular in the USA due to the Diaspora.
